Shifty Disco
Upon hearing “You Can Rest Easy Now” for the first time, I thought something must be amiss. The production was awful – well, actually, it was non-existent. Sounding like it was recorded on somebody’s phone, it’s a wonder that the song’s charms managed to shine through the fuzz. So I headed on over to their Myspace site and listened to the same track there, and whilst it was still lo-fi, it was a much clearer recording. It sounded like the version where they lost their electric guitars but found their four-track. Quite why you would replace this version with the beat-up old Nokia version for the singles release beats the hell out of me, but that’s the version I have so that’s what I must review.
As I mentioned earlier, the excellence of this song is quite clear. It’s a fantastic little pop song, with a melody as simple, yet strong as early Beatles; I suppose when a song has a melody this strong you could record it under a flatulent cow and still capture its beauty (it’s no fluke either, ‘Open a Door’ on their Myspace site is equally fantastic).
So long as Burglarised get their recording equipment back [perhaps this is why they are called Burglarised?!?], the future looks bright for them as their song-writing ability is undeniably strong. As everyone knows, the song-writing is the hardest [and most important] part – the rest should be easy for Burglarised now.
