While unpacking the perfectly presentable Call it Arson 7” Moth Wash, thoughts come rushing, and I’m taken back to the day I received my first brand new vinyl. There is nothing better than opening an impeccably packaged vinyl for the first time. And this one is wrapped especially tidy, complete with a rice paper fact sheet to accompany.

Going in for my first listen of Call It Arson basically blind, I’m instantly hit with a rapid acoustic guitar intro and the first line to the song, and also the title, ‘There’s a Way to Be On’ on side A. The song becomes more pop influenced with addition of an uptempo beat, and second guitar. The sound is likeable and harsh without being abrasive. Over all to quickly, the song only lasts 1 minute, 48 seconds.

Side B, ‘Sharpie’, starts a slow ballad, with Bush-like pace and simplicity that is impossible not to enjoy. Adding some rhythm to the mix changes the feel of the song completely, making it lighter and more fun, only then to switch back a moment later to acoustic. The genre of this track changes so many times, it’s impossible to pigeonhole it into a certain description, but you can’t possibly hate them all. The vocals are effortlessly cool and easy, meaning that there is something in it for everyone.

The two tracks themselves from the Connecticut based quartet are very different from each other, but I found I enjoyed them both, and they fit amazingly well together for this release. If the boys of Call It Arson can continue to combine all their influences and talent as they have on this 7”, there is just no telling how ground-breaking they could actually become.

I doubt it, unless it's original print.

Great album though, I hope you have it on CD Chris?
