"Wake. I am Awake," this record certainly wakes you up. The combination of brutal guitars, up-beat drums and emo lyrics make Ghost On Pegasus Bridge live up to their so called 'Epic-core' genre. There is a mixture of horrifically dark, deep, bass/guitar riffs alongside some double kick heavenliness, attached to a plethora of emo vocal harmonies. It's not very often a band describe themselves as creating a new genre and actually do it with the conviction that Ghost On Pegasus Bridge have. Throughout the CD there are heavy similarities to bands such as Funeral For A Friend, Alexisonfire, Trapt, Panic At The Disco, Fightstar, Enter Shikari, the list could never end. This is a wide variety of influence and different styles. Upon each listen you find new comparisons, but Ghost On Pegasus Bridge still manage to keep ahead of their game with this release.
Aspects of doom metal in the vocals appear in the first track 'For I Never Left (Always Yours)' with an earth shattering guitar line and double kick beat that comes out of nowhere. Yet it's just enough to let you know that Ghost On Pegasus Bridge are capable of making such horrific sounds whilst being able to juxtapose them with up-beat happy go lucky harmonies and heartfelt lyricism. 'Anchors' stands out from all the other tracks with a very creative use of vocal harmony, that frankly hasn't occurred very often in this genre. Nic Matthews vocals tread on a fine line when moving up and down some notes that nearly sound out. This is followed by the group chanting in unison, almost incorporating football anthem characteristics. Again these vocals seem to go out of tune with the song and tease the ears. The material is well written, the vocals have you singing along [without even realizing] which is a hard feat to accomplish with hardcore/metal (apart from those annoying pop princesses Enter Shikari). Wolf At Your Door Records have made a good decision by signing this young talent, as well as Lavondyss and Deaf Havana. Both a young generation of musicians keeping the hardcore scene alive and kicking. Ghost On Pegasus Bridge are like a mixed bag of nuts, this record is not for the faint hearted or people with a nut allergy! Tracks:
1. For I Never Left (Always Yours)
2. Towers
3. Dear Alisyia
4. This Is Crisis
5. Anchors
6. All Creation Wept
