Like music that’s original, honest, raw and gutsy? Me too. Take my word for it then when I tell you that ‘Before All Time’ are not our kind of band.
In their defence, the biography on their MySpace does state that they are “five guys doing what they love. We play songs that we enjoy and hope you do to” but unfortunately for me, that doesn’t cut it and validate their place within the already saturated music business. If playing music in front of friends in a quiet local pub is what they enjoy, then that’s sweet and fine, but to attempt to launch into the industry is a completely different thing for a band of this level. ‘A Study In Jealousy’ is the most generic and unoriginal track that I have heard in weeks, and boys, FYI, people HATE HATE HATE it when British bands put on the world’s worst American accent for the sake of sounding cool on a record. Britain has an unrivalled music history and that is something to be proud of so please don’t shun it for a poor attempt to imitate a Californian pop-punk band that just sounded like millions of others before them. Unless this band can find something that makes them unique and then embrace it, then I’m afraid that they will just be left with an embarrassing record to show their grandkids.
Also taken from the biography, is the line “We love everyone that loves us and even those who hate us”. Without wanting to sound malicious guys, the love is unfortunately one way until you shun the dodgy accent and pull your fingers out.
