End Of The Trail Records
It's not too often that I receive a promo CD quite like this one; the majority are unfortunately often a couple over par and less than average while the remainder are usually so incredibly terrible that I run out of negative words and will to live. ‘Chairkickers’ by ‘Dead Letter Office’ however is in short alliterative-for-alliteration’s sake form, fabulously fucking fantastic. Bands like this remind me why I love discovering new music so much, although if every single CD that I received was this great then this would be a pretty boring job. The true beauty of listening to lots of music is that although a lot of it is good, it is rarely great; so when I unexpectedly hear something as in your face, powerful and ambitious as the unapologetically immediate launch into ‘Chairkickers’ with its almost swirling guitars and perfectly produced drums I unashamedly get a little excited and a glimmer of hope for the future of music. With vocals and delivery that reminisce of the man himself; James Dean Bradfield, and a touch of Cold War Kids’ likeable sound it is impossible for the genuine music fan to dislike Dead Letter Office.
Although some may argue with the possible contradiction that I usually moan about predictable music, I am sticking to my guns with this one. Yes it’s structured by textbook in standard timing and yes it’s ‘just another pop song’ by my God wouldn’t it sound great on your radio!? The difference between this and other attempts at a pop song is that this band have the art of song writing down to a tee – sections flow well, verses know when to back off and the chorus launches at you with the most beautiful uplifting vocals.
I would genuinely love to hear more from this band but even if I don’t ever get to; thanks for making me smile for 10 minutes.
