Classic rock is on the way out.
Although The Answer sold over 100,000 copies of their debut album 'Rise', the genre still feels done and dusted to me. Everything has been done, there's is nothing new to add, a dying breed you could call it. The new wave kids at NME rule the roost now and it doesn't look very positive for anyone else to make a comeback.
As lead singers go, Cormac Neeson does a great job. Powerful and abundant in energy, strange for such a short stack. He is good, but far too much like rock legend Robert Plant. Maybe The Answer are trying too hard to become the 08/09 version of Zeppelin. However, this will never happen, most of the material is weak, predictable and pretty boring. A large amount of the tracks seem to drag along with a slow ballad of guitar solos and strained vocals. The band are reminiscent of a pub band, with a little extra style and energy, or maybe one of those battle of the bands contestants [if you have been in a band you will know what I'm aiming at].
A lot of credit goes out to this band, they have obviously worked mighty hard to get where they are now and are big enough to grab a supporting slot with the one and only AC/DC. It does feel like The Answer are being pushed down our gullets though, just like the wonderful dark irish beverage. It tastes like shit but it's bloody popular.
Each song is very similar, fast forward through album at random and you won't be able to differentiate between each track. The structure to the songs are verse, chorus, verse, chorus, cheesy solo and big epic ending. The only two credible songs on a vocal level are track four "Cry Out" and track ten "Comfort Zone'. This is purely for the fact that they have a different vocalist taking the lead vocals [more so in track ten]. Again the music is still as boring as a cold wait at the bus stop, or those annoying shopping trips with your partner. Towards the end of the track there is a nice feature, it only lasts around ten seconds but it still counts. Around 2mins 56 secs, a vocal section that fills your ears with joy. A harmony of "Get it out, get it out of my way" backlined with an "aaahhhhhhhhhhh". It's a subtle resemblance to the Lion King sound track. It's hard to explain but its the only part of the album worth listening too, hence putting so much effort into the mention. Phew!
Irish four piece classic rock band, or a nice irish pint, both are lethal in heavy doses but one is actually good. Tracks to listen to:
