Well, if you like sixties and are quite happy for your music not to push the boundaries or stray from that at all, then you'll most definitely like 'If you leave today' by The Bishops. However, if you're like me, and found a lot of the music from the sixties era fairly dull then this song will no doubt bore you before it even finishes. Although it is without doubt catchy, fun, breezy, a potential summer hit for many, it's not really anything above mediocre. Formulaic to the core, The Bishops do a great job of sounding authentic, but other than that they appear to not have anything else to offer. Technically, this is a 'good' song, the production is brilliant, as is the music, the double vocals in sync capture that sixties sound perfectly, and for what it's trying (and successfully succeeding in) to be, it's brilliant. Spot on. Faultless. However I personally found it lacked depth and sincerity. There was definitely no pain in that pop. This again could just be down to the genre, something I never really found any empathy with, or it could just be that this tried very hard to be a predetermined something, ticking all the boxes along the way, all except the one that states “genuine”. A disappointing seventh single, first from their freshly released second album 'For Now'.
