No longer hiding "In The Shadows", The Rasmus come back with another epic ballad of cheese. The Finnish rockers hit the big time scene back in 2003 (forming as a band in 1994) with that very annoying but incredibly catchy "ooohhh ohhhhhhhhhh, in the shadows...." song, hitting number one slots in several countries. With a vast change of hairstyle and what looks like Billy Conelly/Claudio Sanchez on guitar, The Rasmus stick to their guns to create their latest single 'Livin' in a World Without You'. The title gives a hint as to the level of stilton/chedder/edam involved in the lyrics.
That is some mature cheddar right there.
Lauri Ylönen has a very powerful voice, his vocal delivery is spot on and is definitely a force to be reckoned with, taking the role of lead singer / crazy hair man. The double layering of Ylönen's vocals in the chorus smash through a rather simplistic distorted riffage. Around 1min14 his vocal line can be very lightly compared to The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby. That was said lightly, but it does have similarity, and it works. Musically reminiscent of Innerpartysystem, with a gated synth and some creative panning. The whole track is filled by a few dirty guitar chords and a punchy beat.
This is 3mins14sec of quality pop song, if you like that sort of thing.

"Its hard to believe that it came to this
You paralysed my body with a poison kiss
For 40 days and nights I was chained to your bed
You thought that was the end of the story
Something inside me called freedom came alive
Living in a world without you"
