Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains - ‘Who do we care for?’

Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains - ‘Who do we care for?’
Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains - ‘Who do we care for?’ is the first single release from Sebastien Grainger’s debut self titled record; Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains. Formerly of Death from Above 1979, Grainger has recently signed to Saddle Creek Records arguably (thanks to the efforts of co-founder and song writer Conor Oberst) best known for bringing Bright Eyes to the international world.

‘Who do we care for?’ is in all honesty, not a massive step away from the dance punk edge of Grainger’s former project but still shows a new level of song craftsmanship moving away from the choppiness of the jarred guitar punk to a more bass driven, chunky sound - musically aligning itself more with acts such as Queens of the Stone Age - however still keeping dance-esq. elements buried within the music for example the disco drum beat and the post chorus break downs which evokes a hands in the air moment - big time. The chorus is poppy as hell, with almost a British vibe in the delivery of the words at times, and the harmonies on the vocal lines remind me of later Ash - think Shining Bright but less whiney.

All in all ’Who do we care for?’ is a great track. This is a song that:
  • A/ could be dropped in a DJ set for any London indie club;
  • B/ would go down amazingly live (especially in a dirty underground sweat room);
  • C/ certainly sounds great on record and I’m sure not before long it’ll
  • D/ be used on an advert for a new mobile phone or failing bank credit loan with Sean Bean doing the voice over!
I can definitely say I will be buying the album which is available from Saddle-Creek.com. If the single is anything to go on it’ll be a prime record, maybe not life changing, but still a classic for an after pub smoke up.
