Remano Eszildn – R–Tracks [Album]
 

The R- Tracks promo material states that “ Remano’s music has the power of taking machine rhythms to new emotive levels, with the attention to detail luring the listener back for repeated listens.”

Does it really? Can R-Tracks prove to be one of the rare electronic albums that doesn’t seem inherently disposable?

The first, and title, song R –Track gets straight into those, so called, machine rhythms, and buries itself deep into electronica territory. The production is obviously skilled and the song, like the rest of R-Tracks has movement and subtlety. The second track, Kinnoull, evokes feelings of Bealeric House, and I am not sure if this is a good thing?!?

In fact, the first three songs on the album seem to use the same [or quite similar] synth sounds, and we notice that most of R-Tracks music appears to be structured like this. The whole album has a kind of quirky, circus like feel to it, most evident in “R-Bottin”, “Parallelelatron” and “Listening Picture”. This circus like feel mirrors the fact that Remano Eszildn is seen as a bit of a recluse within the industry. We cannot however hold this against him, and R-Tracks does have some quite beautiful musical moments, but, most of these are found in Remanos classicaly inspired electronica movements. “The Brink”, “Momentary Present” and “Wavaslek” are the stand out electronic movements, and they evoke feelings of some of Aphex Twin and Brian Eno’s ambient works.

This type of music wont work in clubs, on dancefloors, or even at partys. It does work at home, or on an Ipod, and that in itself must be respected. We must not forget either that this is Remano Eszildn’s debut album, and this leaves us thinking that if Eszildn moved away from the circus type electro and deeper into his classical electronic musings that maybe we would have a new star in the making?
