The Living Daylights are a 5 piece punk band hailing from Lincoln, who formed in the summer of 2007 and have already racked up an impressive number of live shows throughout the UK and Europe. The Living Daylights have played with bands such as Smoke on Fire, Failsafe, Mike Park (ex Skankin’ Pickle) and many more. They have also recently embarked on another European tour of Belgium and Holland and are scheduled to return to Europe again this summer.

I had the pleasure of catching a few songs from one of The Living Daylights shows last year when they were playing with a friend of a friend’s band so I knew what to expect from 'Ways To Escape'. The opening chant of 'Carve It Out' sets the tone straight away for the album; 12 tracks of catchy, punk rock anthems with melodic guitars, nice vocal harmonies and plenty of sing along choruses from start to finish, with each track being as infectious as the last.

The Living Daylights sound can be compared to the likes of Rise Against, Hot Water Music and Strike Anywhere, and from 'Ways To Escape' it is evident that these bands have been a major influence on them, but, The Living Daylights still manage to keep a distinctly unique and British style whilst managing to mix the sounds of melodic hardcore perfectly with straight forward punk rock.

'Ways To Escape' isn’t exactly going to change the shape of punk to come, but it is a cracking debut album and with all of the indie/electro business dominating the ‘alternative’ music scene at the moment it’s good to know that there’s still a bunch of guys out there working hard and playing the music that they love. The Living Daylights are one of those bands who show that the British underground punk scene is still alive and kicking (not that it was ever dying; it just suffered a minor flesh wound when Capdown broke up).

'Ways To Escape' was released on Fond Of Life Records in Europe and the UK and is produced by Peter Miles who has also produced albums from bands such as Capdown, Sonic Boom Six, and The King Blues, all of whom have achieved critical acclaim within the British underground punk scene and like these bands The Living Daylights have that hard work ethic and catchy punk rock edge that helps them gain the recognition that they deserve.

The Living Daylights plan to tour throughout 2009 to promote Ways to Escape so chances are you’ll catch them at a punk rock show near you soon.
