Gui Boratto - Take My Breath Away [Album] Tiesto got it just right with the epic track "Adagio For Strings". Every chav under the bus shelters across the country recognizes that tune, and it's a banger. Simple bass drum patterns, synthesizers and build ups that make you nod your head like Churchill (the dog). Gui Buratto has all of this down to a T, he is chilled out dance with nothing new to the industry. Having said that 'Take My Breath Away' is still a solid dance album. All eleven tracks copy the generic simplicity involved with the electro dance arrangement, but standing out above the rest is the fifth song "No Turning Back". It's a beautiful song, that can be listened to in quick succession. A possible single for Borratto? Royksopp had it sorted with "What Else Is There?" that just sounds like the sister of "No Turning Back" but with Gui providing less lead vocals. He captures the essence of good composition, teasing your ears and creates an atmospheric pressure on the lug-holes. Nothing new can be mentioned about Take My Breath Away', it's not innovative or a masterpiece in anyway. It's just good - a record to put in the player and walk away not feeling any different. If Gui was to collaborate with another artist then he may have something on his hands that is unbreakable. Having already worked with high profile artists such as Goldfrapp and The Pet Shop Boys, he is definitely heading the right way. Maybe fit in some remixes to add to the equation. It can be very easy to fall into a trap of dance by using a stupidly fit bird to sing some silly lyrics about love, but Gui Boratto has stuck to his guns and created some great chillout dance classics. Although a fit bird is always a bonus when flicking over to TMF to the latest Bass Hunter catastrophe. |
