Heard of Attic Lights? Me neither.

I can only assume that is the sole reason the Glasgow based band have decided to record their own version of this song. To get noticed, and maybe the royalties involved with getting your song as a theme tune of a show - that's right the new and up to date version of Minder, which I believe is on your screens as we speak.

The actual song ia a modernized cover version of the theme tune from 80’s drama Minder, re-visited and revamped (as previously mentioned) for the new version of the show. It would have been better off having never been re-recorded and, although I have not seen the new TV version I can imagine the same can be said for the show?!?. In fact, this theme tune is the sole reason for the little Britain character that is small and always wants his next role to be one where he can sing the theme tune!

The song sounds like exactly what it is, a TV programme theme tune. What this means is that it is musically very bland and very uninteresting. The only really interesting part of the song is about 2 minutes in when you get a hint of a guitar solo, but again it is nothing worth writing home about.

Attic Lights [for their efforts] try to bring their own unique take to the song, but in the end it falls flat and resembles something in between the House Martins and the Bob the Builder theme. An area in which the song might have saved it self [lyrics], are also very poor, though this is no fault of the Attic Lights. Although, sadly they do not get anymore inspired than:

I’ve got a good idea/ just to keep me near/ I’d be so good for you/
Lyrics which, to be honest, are unlikely to change the word and almost seem to be just words for the sake of having words.

I would have loved to say Attic Lights are the next big male pop/indie group, however if they continue producing material of this standard their album ‘Friday Night Lights’ [released last September] will find itself in the bargain bin sooner rather than later!
