Century Media
One of the latest female fronted bands to gain a mainstream following - In This moment return with their second album ‘The Dream’ and at first listen you may be forgiven for thinking, given their timing, that’s it’s a return to bands such as Evanescense and heaven forbid, Paramore!
Publicity for the band also caters for the aforementioned market with slots on Give It A Name in the UK and even a Playboy interview with Maria Brink; so would the image win out over the music? ( The Playboy interview being fully clothed I add…)
The main difference is down to the riffs of Chris Howorth and Blake Bunzel and the vocals of Maria Brink, as singing is not the only weapon in her voice, she can also scream (which seems to be a required element for female singers on Century… Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy anyone?)
The album itself is a melodic ride which will appeal to fans of metalcore with less of an edge (though the edge does try to get out when the screaming kicks in) but a perfectly acceptable album to listen to whatever your mood, meaning the music does win out over the image perception for once.
