The Tunics - Shine On [Single]

The Tunics - Shine On [Single]

Manta Ray Music

Croydon indie-poppers The Tunics (surely there are no more nouns left to plunder?) are quite aptly named seeing as the tune from ‘Shine On’ has been nicked from Britpop hits of the 90’s, and welded to the back-end of more recent Britpop such as The Arctic Monkeys, The Razorlight [haha] and The Libertines. Yes they sound like they’ve been stuck in a room with The View.

Singer Joe Costello has the making of an interesting voice, much in the vein of The Wave Pictures’ David Tattersall, but then ruins it with some annoyingly clichéd delivery (check out the way he sings “shine” as “shee-ine” – we all know where he got that from). The lyrics don’t help either, “For this is rock n roll, I’ve got a rock n roll soul, and we are freedom fighters, for now…”.

So, as you’ve probably guessed by now, this band will no doubt be huge! Sitting alongside other such grand over-achievers as The Enemy, The Kooks and The Courteeners in the pages of the New Music Egos, whilst anyone looking for real rock n roll will continue to look elsewhere...probably across the surrounding waters.
