When a reviewer that traditionally has no real love for a genre of music finds themselves repeatedly listening to something sent to them you know you have produced a quality record. This can be said for Worcester Based hardcore punk band Fights and Fires with their long awaited debut E.P/ Mini album Will It Be My Curse?

Having never being a big fan of punk their is something about this 6 track 20 minute masterpiece that makes you sit up and take notice. The band are obviously greatly influenced by legends, The Bronx which is showcased in songs such as Small town boy. Listening to more tracks on the disc such as title track Will It Be My Curse? and it appears they have also been influenced by bands like Enter Shikari

The band have perfected the art of mixing screaming with melodic singing and have managed to write some quite sophisticated guitar riffs that shine throughout this EP. Due to my slight ignorance of this genre of music I struggled to understand the majority of lyrics. Despite this, the choruses of all the songs are still extremely catchy and the entire EP is of a consistently high quality.

I’ve no doubt Fights and Fires will soon become a favourite of any discerning hardcore fan as they have made me into a fan and I was a person that had never before appreciated Hardcore.
