To answer your question, yes, that is the real De La Soul. Not since the mid-nineties have this hip hop threesome achieved anything near their golden hip hop success, but this Arab hip hop artist has brought them back for this track and he's done well with it.
The song starts with a nice hip hop beat and meanders into female vocals, singing about not letting hip hop die again to the melody of the late Aaliyah's hit Try Again. It's a breath of fresh air to hear De La Soul's voices again and quite a prospect for this upcoming Arab rapper. The unfortunate "downfall" to this song might be in its creativity and lastability; the latter not being entirely their own fault. The beat is decent enough, but nothing to really get you going, which some lesser quality beats do in the charts these days; more of a "head bobbing, cruising in your Cadillac" loop, but at least it does that. That's before you get to track 3.
Entitled 'Hip Hop Sucks', you can tell what this song is about. Ironically, the message from these kinds of tracks are becoming as boring and mundane as the music they criticize. Nevertheless, the backing beat is a little more upbeat and quite inventive, with some trumpeting that doesn't involve a fanfare like round of applause, instead harking back to the ancestors of hip hop, Mr and Mrs Jazz. The only issue I have with this track other than the slightly grating "hip hop is crap" undertone, is the fact that it won't feature on the album, so hopefully the rest of the album will sound as good as this.
