The Prodigy = DOMINATION, what more can be said. For years the band have dominated a scene that noone has managed to copy. They have their own genre and they bloody well destroy any venue they hit. Before i bum the band into the ground, the support act needs abit of love.

Dizzee Rascall has set the level of hip hop to a great standard. None of this gangster "I'll shoot you up", "Here's me bling bling" or whatever they call it, 'Thug Rap' (see my first ever review of Plies). These artist just seem to want to create a name for themselves for being a hard nut, and kind of destroy the point of the music industry, it's all abit of shitty macho crap that puts a bad name on those attempting to create some new tunes. I mean, number one for however many weeks it was with that bloody catchy 'Dance Wiv Me' must mean he is doing something right.

As a support act to get the crowed riled up, who better than Dizzee. It did seem that a majority of the sell out gig weren't really up for abit of Rascal love, alot were still outside during his set, obviously not big fans of a great pioneer. Having previously seen Dizzee at Leeds festival '08, i already had an expectation of massive bass beats and some quality vocal rap delivery. He delivered with great style and a great attitude. Highlights were a great new song coming to our itunes stores soon named "Road Rage", apparently about inpatient and ignorant drivers. The song had a great dance feel, with a thumping bass beat that just kept coming. A little freestyle added to his ever growing talent with a backing track from Korn's dirty "Here To Stay". After getting the crowed pumped using the separation of the "how loud can you shout" sides in the crowed, he then busted out the classics like 'Flex', 'Fix Up Look Sharpe' and the inevitable 'Dance Wiv Me' (no really a classic yet). There is no despute about Dizzee being a great contributor to the industry, he is a great producer, and great live. The Prodigy chose well for their support.

The Prodigy have a great following, they appeal to a mass audience. Tonight there were a great mix of the young and old generation all ready to get on their feet and dance away like a badger with parkinson's. Inevitably your gonna get some absolute dick-ends at a gig like this. There seemed to be an abundance of pill'eds and skin'eds, although sometimes funny to watch they sometimes are just un-called for. At one point a lovely young gentleman stood right next to us outside and had a "wizzle" over the balcony, funny, but his eyes looked like they were trying to escape from his head. The pupils were bloody massive, great stuff. There was quite a large police presence at the venue, although i didn't see much kick off.

Now that the crowd had been successfully fluffed by Mr Rascall, they were now looobed up and ready to take on the audio assassination of The Prodigy boys. From the moment they hit the stage there was a feeling that something epic was going to take place, and it was epic. Kicking off with the new material from the Invaders Must Die album, 'World's On Fire' sounded so powerful when the first beat came in. The lighting was blinding, "anyone with epilepsy stay away!", the back drop consisted of a light rigg bigger than two houses, you can't help but feel sorry for the light engineers! Even with out that the sound alone blew your pants into the back of your seat/person standing behind you. Everything sounded so good, all credit to the sound engineers too for making it sound bloody tight, with only a couple of technical issues. A guitar went abit crazy, along with some dodgy feedback and a crazy crash cymbal. Alot of die-hard Prodigy fans will be on my back about this next comment, but a couple of songs off Invaders Must Die" sound Hadouken'ey. Now this is not a bad thing, it's just the first thing that popped into my demented scalp, please don't hate me.

There was an emotional feel to the whole set, after the first song 'Maxim Reality' (not sure what his real name is) announced that a good friend of theirs had died the previous night, all credit goes out to the lads being able to whack out a show like that after hearing such news. A few songs were dedicated to their friend which added an extra touch to each bass beat and lyrical belter. The Musicianship was shit hot, the drummer was tighter than a nuns bum hole including some crazy tempo changes and disgusting drum fills. The kit sounded so sweet, between songs the drummer would play the odd tom fill or drum roll that just blew me away (as a drummer myself it made me weak at the knees to hear a kit mic'ed up like that).

Vocally, Liam & Maxim couldn't have sounded any better, between the two they belted out some shouting, singing, Mc'ing and adding some great crowd pleasing comments. It was interesting to hear Liam on his own during 'Firestarter', on which he absolutely spanked over. By playing the older material they showed us what they are still capable of, 'Voodoo People' was played better that ever and 'Breathe' sounded scarier than a week old Tuna & Sweetcorn sandwich. Their onstage presence was impeccable, pointing out to the crowed throughout and egging them on. During the songs they seemed to spa with dance moves to one another, creating a new move performed in unison. Liam Howlett onstage seemed to have a certain camp style, wearing some strange clothing and prancing around on stage, yet he still managed to look bloody mental with characteristics of a tourettes sufferer. He pleased the crowed by making his way down into the front row and taking in all the fan's had to throw at him, he even came all the way to the sides (where we were) and spent a little while lapping it up. I tried to take a photo of this moment but i seemed to have a knack for photographing some random woman's back fat.

All in all you get the idea, The Prodigy are world class, anywhere they go, whatever they do, they will always dominate. They are invaders in their own right.

thats a pretty decent review. you caught the energy and the mania of the event really well, and made me laugh a good few times. nice nice.

was everyhting done live though? surely there must have been some backing tracks, through ableton?
not sure if you could see a laptop somewhere on stage, but if not, the drummer must have been really "shit hot", cause their new stuff is pretty damn intricate in the drum programming.......

cool....

thanks man! I'm glad you laughed, my humor is not everyones taste!

Your right about the drums, alot of it is programmed and i think they were using Logic from what i could see. Liam Howlett is the one with all the computers and keyboards, he is amazing.
