The Days – Never Give Up [Single] ‘Never Give Up’ is the sort of record that you immediately decide that you probably dislike, but then as the final note resonates with a (slightly cheesy) classic vibrato one can’t help but to think what a great record it is as you reach for the back skip button for another blast of Transatlantic Devonshire soft pop-rock. Who doesn’t love a bit of Transatlantic Devonshire soft pop-rock these days? The Days have that same harmless feel about them as many other bands, such as Snow Patrol, Coldplay etc, who have all interestingly gone on to succeed greatly on a commercial level. However, that is not to say that The Days sound anything like these acts. The only thing separating The Days from your mates’ band who along with the local press, reckon that they are going to be ‘the next big thing’ is that The Days have broken out of the toilet circuit and are now along with the mighty Atlantic Records, ready to begin the assault of launching themselves upon the world – i.e., there is nothing notably unique about their sound, but it is polished and well written with an aim to please those who enjoy easy listening. A guaranteed success with listeners of daytime BBC Radio 1/ 2 and various others that aren’t frequented by pretentious muso wannabes, Never Give Up has an incredibly generic yet light hearted and sincere sound that barely skims the consciousness but has enough of a likeable effect intriguing the listener into wanting to hear more from The Days. Hardly a ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, but perhaps more of a ‘Yellow’. |
