Incredibly hyped by pop-friendly musos, adored by consumers and probably hated by Jack Johnson for perhaps drawing a little TOO MUCH influence from Old Panpipe Voice himself, Make It Mine is the latest of a string of successful releases from floppy haired Jason Mraz. In many ways, he is your typical singer / songwriter who tiptoes the line of good pop tracks and possessing that wholesome, sensitive nice-guy appeal, hence my Johnson comparison.

The great thing about Jason Mraz though is that he probably doesn’t care about my opinions and comparisons. Considering how laid back Make it Mine sounds, the man seemingly doesn’t care about anything, as I presume, don’t his fans either. Jason Mraz doesn’t write music that’s ‘cool’ or en vogue, it’s not really a name to drop into conversations either with intent to impress. His sound is so genuine and likeable that the music does all of the talking – a rarity these days in a world of sponsorships, ‘Apple Recommended’ and MySpace Music’s ‘Featured Artists’.

Make It Mine is possibly the most upbeat and instantly likeable of his singles to date. Fresh yet subtle, light yet layered it has that mass appeal for people who genuinely like music more than all of the images and credibility points that go with it. A perfect beer garden tune to cradle a cider to, here’s to hoping that Jason Mraz keeps it this simple for his entire career (however long that turns out to be) because he has found a natural formula that works incredibly well.

that's exactly it; he's good at the right time / place but not unique enough to make you, um, care!
