Lissie Trullie's 'Boy Boy' is a quirky, immediate slice of American indie-pop which manages to tick all the right boxes but does so in a fashion so perfunctory it should almost be a crime. Everything from the softy cooed backing vocals to the jerky guitar patterns comes across as a calculated attempt at endearing Ms Truillie to the same crowd that took Vampire Weekend into their hearts last year.

It's catchy, perfectly agreeable bounce is infectious and lively with an assured production that wisely chooses to place the clear, sharp vocals centre-stage. Lissie's performance here is like a slightly more androgynous Chrissie Hynde in places and is off-set nicely by the subtle chorus, It's a smartly crafted little song and it's obviously got a smart team behind it. There are some great little bass hooks and almost Television esque guitar lines scattered throughout too, and it's care-free summer vibe and loose groove will no doubt earn it a place on radio 1 come summer time... it's just very difficult for me to work up any excitement for the track. I want to like it more than I actually do if that makes any sense?

B Side 'You Bleed You' suffers from the same problem as it's predecessor, it just sounds so slight. This song brings to mind the more understated songs on the Yeah Yeah Yeah's 'Show Your Bones' album but where tracks such as 'Turn Into' contained some really interesting arrangements, lyrics and melodies, 'You Bleed You' seems to just saunter along without any real focus or purpose. It's a shame because it does show another side to Lissie's song-writing (and record collection) but the song just isn't strong enough and is at least 2 minutes to long.

Chances are Lissie Trullie will do very well for herself in the next few years. She has a striking voice, bags of charm, supermodel good looks and some really 'hip' contacts (for want of a more appropriate word). However on this evidence whether she has the songs to back-up this almost guaranteed success is open to debate.
