The link between sex and death is certainly not a new one, and vastly more intelligent men than I have far more to offer on the subject than I do, but neither Sigmund Freud nor the French social theorist Michel Foucault discussed the link in regards to London’s self proclaimed “Shriekrockers”, Kasms. Whilst the nation’s music press have so far concentrated on the deathly aspect of Kasms by using words such as “graveyard”, “zombie”, “vampire” and “undead” to describe their debut album Spayed, the word that constantly sprang to my mind every time I listened, was ‘sex’. Now I’m not talking about sweet, tender love-making, full of gentle caress’ like mother used to make ya (as in your conception, sicko!), I’m talking about full on, hard, dirty sex. Forgive me for quoting The Bloodhound Gang but “like they do on the Discovery Channel”. The most obvious example is the track “Bone You”; a big strap-on of a track, full of primal urges, moaned and screamed by pocket siren sister, Rachel Mary Callaghan; “I wanna touch your bone” she yelps, and by the end of the track there’s unlikely to be a woman listening who didn’t wish they had one for her to touch . And the fornication doesn’t end there, even after the two and three quarter minute session that is “Siren Sister”. The word climax is often used when referring to the end of a song, but never is more apt thanwhen describing the orgasmic finish to this track. Of course being a woman, Callaghan is immediately ready for more - three more in fact – this is an exhausting ride but you really wouldn’t want it any other way. Musically the band share a similar sound with the vastly underrated 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster, but perhaps not quite as heavy, nor as bonkers. Highlights? Well apart from the aforementioned “Bone You” and “Siren Sister”, the best laid tracks are the shriek-rock (hmm, that IS a good description) of “Taxidermy” (“he asked me if I gave good head”), the heavy riffing magnificence of “Krih” and “Murmer”, a track made by the fantastic backing ‘response’ vocals of bassist, Gemma Fleet. So now that the sexy seductress that is Kasms has given you a good fucking, you lay back and you fall asleep, utterly exhausted. Do you call her again? You’d have to have a death-wish not to...maybe you’d have one either way. Track List: 1. Male Bonding
