Brighton seems to be hammering out the hardcore screamo bands lately. Brides doing a great job smashing out their debut EP and now this brilliant single from The Ghost Of A Thousand comes in all guns blazing. If this is the first taster of what is to come from this newly signed to Epitaph five piece, then I can’t feckin wait. “New Hopes, New Demonstrations” is set to be their second album to be released in July this year, and it’s going to be a monster of a record.
Having previously discovered the hardcore punk destruction in a live situation when touring with Reuben a little while back, I already had the sense that these guys where going to be huge. The energy they have is just astonishing, as with most hardcore groups a massive part of their appeal is the onstage presence and the ability to have a don’t give a fuck attitude. If you haven’t seen them live then check them out indefinitely on their silly tour through the UK later this year.
Gallows seem to be a band name popping up in most of my reviews but again “Bright Lights” has many elements of their sound. Jagged guitars and trucking drum beats carry the track to a devilish pace. A Rock’n’Roll vibe is also given off with this single and keeps you gripped to the edge of your seat. Breaking down the track with some crazy drumming and dirty, gritty bass lines The Ghost Of A Thousand have set the bar very high on “Bright Lights” to build up even more hype around the band for 2009.
Their heads are screwed on tight, their music is epic, they are here and ready to mess you up! | | | | | Overall Rating | | 8 | | Vocals / Lyrics | | 7 | | Musicianship | | 9 | | Production | | 7 | | Creativity | | 7 | | Lastability | | 6 | | Reviewers Tilt | | 8 |
