Listening to Ane Brun is like being tickled gently by a small kitten. She warms every vein in your heart with her haunting Scandinavian charm. The whole track conjures up a feeling of picturesque landscapes and snowdrops slowly falling. There is a sense of distress throughout, making a dramatic and sometimes dark layers. “The Puzzle” is something you could hear Anthony And The Johnsons releasing. One of those unsettling atmospheric masterpieces that just cling to the soul. She teases the listener with a balance of softly structured guitar and double bass built up backwards and forwards. Violins play a very important part to compliment the voice of a dark angel.
The track has already been number 1 on the iTunes chart in Sweeden, so Ane Brun is definitely doing something right. Along with an outstanding third studio album release “Change Of Season”, which is pretty unreal.
“The Puzzle” is the sort of track you would hear in a film at the climax of a unbelievable ending, something like ‘Crash’ or Dead Man’s Shoes. You know that part when all the hairs down your spine prick up? It’s clear to see that Ane Brun is set in stone in the industry and has certainly made her point. Her timid image is of no contrast to the music she plays, kind of like Laura Marling.
