Scott Matthews - Fractured [EP] For those that can remember the stunning first single ‘Elusive’ released by Wolverhampton’s top acoustic/folk singer/song writer will already know just how talented he is. The haunting vocals and gentle guitar playing left you either crying in your hands or smiling like a kid at a sweet shop. As first impressions go, this was a banger and his album followed suite kicking up a stir and winning awards here and there. “Fractured” plays with emotion and creates an atmosphere throughout the tune. Scott’s vocals seem to have gone a little Chris Cornell on us but it still sounds bloody top bollock. With a layed back beat and simple guitar lines the track is a solid follow up to his debut back in 2006. With build ups and a catchy “Can you help me?” vocal it seems that Scott Matthews has progressed a little in his writing and seems more grown up. He knows what he wants out of a track and has written it to the high level of quality. Elements of Jeff Buckley spring up in the track musically that take it to another level. Scott Matthews is back and ready to kick up another fuss, “Fractured” has a bigger sound and a stronger stomach. I’m sure the album will be as good, if not better. |
Re: Scott Matthews - Fractured [EP] great review, I actually heard this song more than a year ago, (we recorded a single with Scott's producer Gavin Monaghan and he brought up some of the songs on the desk for us) and was really impressed by it then, good to see the guy getting some well deserved critical plaudits. |
