The View “Temptation Dice” [Single]

The View “Temptation Dice” [Single]

1965 Records

Remembering the hype surrounding last years platinum selling debut album “Hats Off To The Buskers” I was dreading having to review The View’s “Temptation Dice” so when I finally sat down to listen to “Temptation Dice” - deadline fast approaching - I was left a little winded.

Instantly recognisable due to the Peter Reilly’s jangly Caribbean guitar riff and Kyle Falconer’s sixties vocals, this song does not wait around for the light hearted speeding on with brilliantly tight execution.

“Temptation Dice” is the third single from second album “What Bitch?”, and was recorded in the summer of 2008 as part of the album sessions with producer Owen Morris. The single “Temptation Dice” has three versions: the Radio Edit, the Instrumental and Full Length version.

The Radio Edit is exciting and well put together without sounding over produced or too ordered. On first listen you want to know the lyrics so you can sing along while you hula dance and strum your air guitar even though you wont have a clue what Falconer is saying - but that’s half the charm and I always prefer to hear a genuine accent.

Reilly’s irresistible riff cleverly links the song and adds depth to “Temptation Dice” taking it away from being another Indie release and gives it an incredibly upbeat sound which is an ironic contrast from the video.

During the bouncy, instrumental you can hear the faint sound of Falconer singing away, giving the impression that while the band were recording, he was locked away somewhere belting the song out through sheer enjoyment. That’s the kind of band that deserves to go platinum.

The Full Version is slightly less driven with clearer vocals but sounds less genuine which is disappointing - probably made for real Indie fans whereas the Radio Edit has potential to bridge different musical genres.

The View have created a very danceable, upbeat tune that certainly made me think twice about Indie. If you’re not an Indie fan, take a gamble with “Temptation Dice”, but be warned - it is addictive.
