Sing it Loud - Come Around [Album]

At twenty seven I am clearly far too old for the target market of Minneapolis boy band quintet Sing it Loud, but that doesn't mean I should dismiss their debut album 'Come Around' with a patronizing shrug of the shoulder. Yes, there are many flaws. Front man Pat Browns' voice for example is a tad too nasally and the music is very simplistic. Overall though "Come Around" is a great introduction to a young market providing a surprisingly listenable album for everyone that is exceptionally catchy.

As I was booked to review their live show as well, my plus one casually asked earlier that evening what kind of music they were. I replied, “like Busted but without Charlie” which I feel summarizes it perfectly. If I was thirteen you can bet I would have loved this band. They are fun, energetic, fairly attractive and alternative enough to invoke a connection not found with the other typical boy bands. The songs are powerful 'pop punk' with good hooks and strong choruses aplenty, and the album is song after song polished pop.

Despite not being able to single any particular tracks as fillers and every song growing tremendously more with each listen, I certainly do have my favourites. These are currently tracks, 'We're Not Afraid', 'Come Around', 'Marionettes', 'Over You' and album closer and no doubt upcoming hit 'Best Beating Heart'. Also, 'No One Can Touch Us' featuring guest vocals from All Time Lows' Alex Gaskarth is highly likable for that very reason (although a little difficult to openly spot). Yeah, the lyrics are a bit naff but I've just picked six songs out of the eleven track album as being stand out tracks and that's gotta mean something.

So while I can see through the primitive, clichéd adolescence in a heart beat and am not sucked in like the masses of adoring prepubescent teens who no doubt will be, I can fully see this a great, catchy piece of boy band guitar pop, and jeeez, they certainly beat boring Mcfly.

It sure does sound like you are! Also I am curious as to your rating because it sounds in your text like you love it a hell of a lot more than 57%.

Ah is 57 all it got? I was aiming for something in the 60's! Damn my crap calculations! I think I'm trying to be a more stingy marker as I'll always remember Mark giving Los Campesinos! like 72 out of 100 despite saying it was an amazing album, and that made me worry that I'm too generous. So now I'm saving my high scores for albums/songs I literally cannot turn off. Like best ever albums. All good-ish albums get 60-70, all crap albums get like 20 and best get highs. That's my new motto.

And Chris I'm not sucked in, I've finally found a band that are too young, they looked like they were 14.

Jack - yes I've seen the myspace, haha, my friend linked it as a twitter update a while ago and I genuinely thought they were a piss take spoof band at first!
