Hmm, I don't really get all the hype surrounding The Veronicas. I remember they were on Neighbours once and I was completely unimpressed. Two girls that were vaguely attractive who looked alike singing breathy Britney style songs – am I mistaken?
Ok, so they are twins, so that's why they look alike, and in the day and age of Lady Gaga they are probably the epitome of feisty girl electro pop, or something. I just see them as generally over produced pop.
Talking about this single in particular, “Untouched”, how does it fare compared to other current releases? Well, I grudgingly have to admit it is better than your average chart pop song. It has a great power ballad chorus, and an awesome early Madonna-esque intro. Chicks will love it and although in places it is too predictable, it is actually a great pop song.
Incredibly catchy (I was singing along within the third listen), it is without doubt the better end of chart pop right now. My only gripe is that it's not really anything new and I'm getting bored with all the Gwen Stefani rip offs coming out as “electro pop” and would like to see a rockier, grittier edge to this genre of music.
I actually think these girl have a good amount of rock in them and shouldn't dull it down in a bid to be more commercial. So to summarize, I think they have a great deal of potential. “Untouched” is a good, fairly well produced electro pop song but really nothing outstanding from them – this time at least.
