Ah Jocasta Sleeps those seemingly wily old foxes of Glasgow's burgeoning music scene it's so good to finally welcome you into the club sit down take a load off would you like a menu? The crayfish you say, ah what a wonderful choice sir, would you like to see the wine list? Sorry just a small scenario played out in my head there, yes it's good to finally have you in the singles club and a rather immediate single it is as well.
Almost as if taking queue from We Were Promised Jetpacks, Jocasta Sleeps have gone for the pummelling in your face yet cheeky chappy tuneful tune-age and it has gifted them 'Crayfish Cocktail' which; and don't ask me how, but sounds indelably Scottish it's as if we have crafted a certain sound and pumped it into the vats of Tennants around the country for all fledgling bands to sup on.
Full of spiky guitars with flits of soulful melody all strung together by lead vocalist Callum Wiseman's powerful delivery that's ably supported by the shouting energy of his bandmates. There's an underlying tension that's being held under the water by melody, you can picture it angry tension on one shoulder cherubic melody on the other both whispering into the Jocasta earlobes.
It's always a bit shabby to stick labels on bands but seen as they are starting out and you may not have heard of them I'll feel obliged to mention their name alongside a few others just so you get the idea and will go listen so hear goes for some mathematics. Jocasta Sleeps = Biffy Clyro + Death Cab For Cutie / decent-era Idlewild. Get it? Good go forth and conquer.
