Following the trend of a woman plus the words ‘And The’ followed by another word in pop recently come "Venetia And The Voltage" from Brighton with their third single "Is This The Best?". According to their Myspace page, the Voltage are described as having "an electroclash sound with a mixture of The Mars Volta’s madness in time movements". That to me sounds super interesting!

On listening the electroclash influence is very clear especially as they follow another trend (given Venetia’s past as a DJ at Fabric) by having dance producers do the remixes! The song itself is more indie based with the use of guitar. From a vocal standpoint Venetia'a voice gives me the sense of a melting pot of Bjork and Beth Ditto which personally is fine by me. However, given that you have Florence and Beth releasing their albums during this summer I have a big fear that this song MAY get lost in the shuffle!

The remixes however will make sure that it will get played in clubs across the UK (such as Fabric), probably the 1st remix on the record (which I wish I knew who did it but both the single and the band’s site give NO info AT ALL… bad move there!)

Overall this band have a cult following awaiting them and if it wasn’t for other electro bands being released over the next few months they may have got more of a chance if they had delayed their releases slightly. Either way an interesting effort from a new band that will definitely be staying on my radar.
