From Liverpool comes Sound Of Guns a band that have recently played Radio 1’s Big Weekend and have been championed by Huw Stevens and Steve Lamacq which does seem like two very big endorsements for any band these days.
On this basis I decided to ignore the Radio 1 hype and gave Sound Of Guns a few listens first before writing this review…
Architects gives the impression of Sound Of Guns having Biffy Clyro influences with the heavy guitars and slow intro before it fully kicks in. When it does it has a very good sing-along chorus and gives a good balance between the vocals and instruments. (Credit to Simon Finley’s mixing there)
Nice lead off single to start the CD off with, we now come to the second track Magnesium Seas.
Bit more mellow than the previous song giving a slightly more upbeat Ash and Feeder influence whilst still being a song that will get crowds moving at the Sound of Guns’ upcoming Latitude appearance.
Overall [for a change], Radio 1 have made a good recommendation. My personal feeling is that when the album gets released it should/will do well as Sound Of Guns have the mainstream appeal to do well in 2009 and it appears by this single that this is very much rightly so!
