We begin a special look into recent releases off the Century Media label with a review of the second album by thrash rockers Warbringer. After being signed by Century Media in 2004 (over the original band that the label had come to see no less!) the debut in 2006 had acclaim amongst the thrash rock circles.
This second album should continue the acclaim by having a member of Bay Area thrash pioneers in Exodus’ Gary Holt doing the production duties.
Now I will warn you that thrash contains these elements:
- blastbeat drums;
- dual guitars;
- solos aplenty;
- and songs that at the most don’t go over four minutes long;
If you’re not keen on any of the above then I would advise that you steer clear of this album!
From the opening track ‘Jackal’ the vocals of John Kevill scream out combined with the dual guitar and blastbeats of John Laux, Adam Cowell and Nick Ritter with the deep bass (and in one case, vocals) of Ben Bennet. There is one exception to this rule however with the track ‘Nightmare Anatomy’ which harks back to the days of Metallica’s Call Of Ktulu (with one part being very similar).
As with any thrash album, Warbringer show they can keep up with their peers and have potential. "Waking Into Nightmares" is one for fans of thrash 80’s stylee!
Catch them with Testament this July across the UK and Europe for one hell of a ride!
