Suicide Silence - No Time To Bleed [Album] I start this review with shall we say a confession: Deathcore as a genre I find to be quite annoying. More so in my area where there seems to be a huge over saturation of it! Knowing that I had to review the new album by Suicide Silence I figured that in the interest of fairness I would give this album a shot. I then noticed who the producer was: Machine! This man had done over the past few years some of the best rock/metal albums in Lamb Of God’s breakthrough ‘Sacrament’ along with Mindless Self Indulgence’s ‘You’ll Rebel To Anything’ plus many more! As doon as I saw this my expectations were suddenly raised. Maybe this would be different from your run-of-the-mill death-core production line?! My assumptions turned out to be correct, this album has the potential to be one of the metal-core albums of the year. Vocally the topics are more diverse (even if some people may need the lyric sheet to get them… I’m guilty of that sometimes!) about religion and war compared to Suicide Silence’s last album ‘The Cleansing and Mitch Lucker’s vocals (similar to Randy Blythe under Machine) have been able to mature quite well. Musically the math-core style dual guitars of Chris Garza and Mark Heylmun come into a league of their own this time to adapt with the paces of the songs which can go death metal slow (And Then She Bled and Wasted being prime examples) to the fast grindcore pace of many of the others, same goes with the drumming of Alex Lopez. Wasted will probably be the track that gets most people talking as it’s an instrumental with a 911 call, there’s possible social commentary about police forces in the US that is worth a listen. This album is a must for fans of the brutal combination within, crisp production by Machine equals a must buy and a must-see in October during their tour with Devildriver. (I hope!) |
Re: Suicide Silence - No Time To Bleed [Album] here, can someone explain to me the difference between deathcore and grindcore? is it merely the subject matter? the tempo? or what? thanks.... |
Re: Suicide Silence - No Time To Bleed [Album] robin- It's more the tempo if anything, grindcore's main idea is to go quite fast making the songs short (Napalm Death during the 'Scum' era were a good example). For Grindcore start with Napalm Death, then go onto Brutual Truth then Nasum. The tempo in deathcore is mostly slow with fast breakdowns and drumbeats with a growl style vocal rather then the scream/growl mix of grindcore. Subject matter is mostly at least in some of grindcore's cases (Carcass) about death, in deathcore the subjects can be varied too (despite the name) with war being one. For deathcore start with Repulsion then Suffocation and Dying Fetus. |
Re: Suicide Silence - No Time To Bleed [Album] Quote:
Start with some Napalm Death (whose second drummer apparently coined the term) then Brutual Truth and Carcass. Deathcore is more slower in tempo and can have a mix of subjects. Recommended starters are Dying Fetus, Repulsion and in a roundabout way Cannibal Corpse. |
Re: Suicide Silence - No Time To Bleed [Album] thanks for that. seems you know your stuff in this area...... will look into some of the names you dropped. cheers. |
