Benjamin Taylor - Wicked Way [Single]

Ever wondered what would happen if such singer/songwriters like James Taylor decided to stop romanticising sex and love and instead be incredibly blunt about the whole thing? If you have, the new track from Benjamin Taylor may just be for you.

‘Wicked Way’ is a song that has its tongue planted very firmly in its cheek, yet still manages to produce something credible whilst being very funny. The song (if it was not obvious) is about how a young man wishes to get close to a young lady, and isn’t really bothered how he does it.

"Wicked Way" revels in being the cliché of a typical folk song. Slow plucked guitar strings, a slow basic drum beat, and the necessary harmony on odd parts of the verses. If you didn’t pay close attention to the lyrics you could easily think it was the new song from someone like Jason Mraz.

Taylor’s lyrics are witty and honest. He sings ‘I just wanna take you out and get you drunk so I can have my wicked way with you’. Unlike a lot of humorous / tongue-in-cheek songs, "Wicked Way" is actually a highly listenable and credible song that while having ridiculous subject matter is somehow a huge pleasure to listen to!

Folk music is currently being churned out at a rate of knots and in a very bland, dull form. Perhaps Benjamin Taylor is what the genre needs, and that is to stop taking itself so seriously. Benjamin Taylor blatantly wants to change things and "Wicked Way" is a real gem amongst a plethora of folk pap.
