Track one “Shut The Fuck - Uppercut” is an explosive start to the new album from South Wales’ finest The Blackout. The song showcases the bands best screamo core credentials. The song is a strong opener complete with "woahs", the track makes you want to move to its relentless beat. The energy displayed by The Blackout is breath taking. Track two, “Save Ourselves (The Warning)” continues the assault on your ears. The song overall is less screamy than the opener and showcases a more mellow side to The Blackout. Lazy comparisons could be made between the band and fellow countrymen The Lost Prophets or from across the pond by referencing Madina Lake. However as the album progresses it becomes obvious that The Blackout surpass any efforts offered by the two aforementioned bands. Track 7, “Silent When We Speak” changes pace and is a melodic slice of pure sugary heartfelt genius. This track shows the musical depth of the band. The song could be epic when played live if extended and if the band put their hearts into playing it. For me track 9 “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” is the absolute standout track on the whole album. The song chugs along and comes together at the awesome chorus with the lyrics “I don’t care what your thinking, I don’t care what your saying”. This lyric has an immediate sing along quality. Even though the track has a jaunty riff there is bitterness contained within it, this can be seen in the following lyric “I will never be perfect because I will never be you”. The album as a whole is extremely well produced, all credit must be given to Jason Perry. The Blackout, with this album “The Best In Town”, have produced an album that does exactly what it says on the tin. On the strength of these 10 tracks, the band are quite simply the best in town. The track titled “The Best In Town” shows the potential of The Blackout as a genre busting band. Check this album out and I strongly urge you to try to catch them live if you possibly can.
