Patrick Wolf, is an unbelievable talent, a genre-defining, genre-destroying artist who produces impressive, epic pieces of music. Having not released an album for several years (due to finance) he asked his fans to each give ten pounds to help him set up his own label and record a new album. The fans would in hand get a free copy of the album and shares in the album, thus gaining profits from sales.

This the first single off the new album ‘The Bachelor’ proves that all that money invested in producing the album was definitely worth it, as Patrick has delivered another smash hit.

Moving away from his usually orchestral sound, Patrick has seemingly entered the world of electronica. The track sounds more like something you would expect from Nine Inch Nails, then a piece by Patrick as he experiments with sound effects, and electronic instruments that result in a lapping up of 80’s new wave sound.

What’s most interesting is what the song documents, a week Wolf spent in Los Angeles where he embarked on a 7 day ‘session’ with a guy that turned out to be a Satanist. Wolfs lyrics, despite how the sound has changed are as dark and deep as ever. He sings ‘Down in Santa Monica, suicide motel, one date with the devil, seven days in hell.’ Although not Patrick’s work this song does act as a fantastic teaser of what’s to come on new album ‘The Bachelor’.
