Glittertind- Landkjenning (Landfall) [Album]

Recently I reviewed the folk albums by Tyr and Alestorm. The concepts of these albums were Vikings and Pirates which, given the genre, involved a lot of drinking and adventure which is generally the norm for bands of this genre.

Glittertind’s album is slightly different to these aforementioned bands albums. Aside from Longships and Mead [Pirates again!] it mostly is about the history and poetry of their homeland of Norway (the band’s name is taken from the highest mountain in Norway).

As the music goes,"Landkjenning " mostly focuses on the traditional style and music of Norway and focuses on a time when Norway was just being converted into Christianity and the multiple choices that had to be made.

In a break from the usual musical style there is one track called "Jeg Snorer Min Sekk" (don’t ask for translation) which is actually Punk in nature and vibe and at a guess they used this genre to signify the rebellion of some people during the time in question.

The music itself is a jolly affair to drink and relax to in equal measure.

As folk metal goes it’s worth a listen even if it's just for the historic concept that underlies the album. A good listen and recommended by me at least!
