Koletzki has been in the electronic music game for quite a while now, with releases on such esteemed labels as Cocoon (Sven Vath) and Kling Klang (Kraftwerk). He has enjoyed relatively high success in his homeland of Germany, if not having quite reached the international success of some of his peers. “Yes We Can” is a digital release single from Hell Yeah records, part of Intergroove, and is quite possibly one of his best production efforts and was produced in conjunction with Roland Clark of Defected Records and features one of those uplifting speeches in the Obama mould of “Change”.
"Yes We Can" has been released more or less in conjunction with the election of the new United States president and while House music has never been the most political at heart, it is quite a gem of a release. The original is simple in it's structure, as all good dance music is, featuring tribal drums, big reverberated piano stabs and some elongated synth play, all layered underneath the aforementioned speech from Roland Clark.
"Yes We Can" will undoubtedly receive a huge amount of play in clubs/DJ bars and dance radio stations as it is a true 6 minute builder, wonderfully restrained and immensely uplifting. It takes four minutes to really get moving, showing that Koletski made this track to be mixed in true DJ style, and contains enough emotion and movement to make any dance-floor cream it's pants.
"Yes We Can" features two other remixes as well as a “Radio Cut”, but probably the less said about these the better as the original is where it's at. Enzo Elia takes the speech sample deeper into tribal house territory, with a nice old bass thump to boot, while Umek takes it further into tech-house/minimal territory with a whirring bassline and filter effects.
To be honest though the remixes don’t do the original justice. It is funny with electronic music, when it comes to the remixes of a track you either get one or the other. The remix artists either get it spot on and take the remix to another level, or just don’t get it at all.
With "Yes We Can" the original is still the best, and while the other remixes will definitely get played, the original is the one to get the hands in the air for.
