Knob-twiddling has never been an art form that I've ever truly appreciated or understood and it becomes even more baffling for me when it's thrown together with some clearly quite impressive musicianship as I feel it's just covering up all the good work only on rare occasions do I find myself nodding my head and thinking yeah this works and generally that's only ever been UNKLE tracks such as Rabbit in the Headlights so Three Trapped Tigers had an uphill battle from the beginning to be honest.

Here we have two tracks the second of which was delivered to us via Strokes producer Gordon Raphael so my hopes were lifted a little. But first we have '7' which begins all beatific and melodically synth like which is doing little to lift my spirits about TTT but at around a minute in there comes the infernal crunching of rock and my head begins to bob and weave solo to the rest of me however, it's short lived as the 1982 Terminator refrain wafts in but in a less than interesting way to evaporate any interest I had, even the several minutes of laser blasting and futurism does little to help me, I'm feeling disappointed and go in search of some enlightenment by moving onto the second offering.

Instantly there is an improvement as '1' seems to have gone for instrumentalism over beats and it's to it's saviour as there's a crushing and deafening destruction of drums and guitars but that all comes to a waning end a minute in it's like '7' but in reverse just what the hell is going on! However, there is a certain late 70's Television-esque coda to it and it pulls me back into the fold... just.

This sort of thing isn't my cup of horlicks but it's clearly an impressive piece of work if only I could learn to understand and appreciate it more I'm sure my world would be a more fruitful place, especially after watching this:
