Union Sundown run a close link to the likes of new rockers The Answer and Black Stone Cherry. Heavy chords and a meaty vocal to match. They all have a couple of features in common, big sound, big bollox but no diversity. Skip through each track and they sound pretty damn similar. For an avid rock'n'roll listener Union Sundown will shake that bandana off your scalp with one note and quench the thurst for a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Ripping through the intro to the first track 'Ignition' with a towering down of tumbling drums the band show promise for something prog and exciting. This promise is full filled for just over a min featuring a great riff, then the vocals kick in. Lead singer Anthony Jones powers through each track with a husky Cormac Neeson style of vocal delivery. Powerful as it is at moments it just doesn't feel right in the tracks, but then moments later a note will be hit with a duel layered romper stomper of a harmony. Listening to individual instruments throughout definitely show off the talent of each band member, Stephen Cribb smacks out some cheeky chords and fiddely riffs on each track that rocks your cloggs.

At moments the tracks seem to hit an At The Drive-In style with jerky patterns and cheeky stops. Its just those flipping vocals that they need to do something about. 'Sinful Times' has a really beasty riff, but it pretty much sounds the same as Reuben's - "Suffocation Of The Soul". Having said that it's a guitar riff on this track and theres a very nice pull-off section (I notice that "pull-off section sounds like something you might hear in a strip club").

All four tracks are very similar, Union Sundown seem to be a solid four piece rock band. But is that a good thing or a bad thing? You need a little diversity to keep things fresh. With a little work the Swansea four piece could make one heck of a debut album.

2. Sinful Times
