So in a rarity I get sent through e-mail another set of demos for a band from New York called "Hoodless" who proclaim on their Myspace page that they're 'different than most that come out of their particular genre and from New York City itself'.

After navigating the site to get at the Demos [thanks Jack for the actual link there! :-)] the first track kicks in and is called 'Say It Loud' . The recent trend in pop-rock and indie suddenly kicks in with an Incubus style sound mixed with a poor attempt at trying vocally to recreate Brian Molko.

The lyrics [while being slightly different at first] suddenly descends into "get drunk and party mentality" with a girl (most of the band's Myspace photos feature them partying with girls at their gigs, I'm not that shocked!)

Next track 'Innocent' is similar sounding to the newer and more gay sounding Lost Prophets style song and the singer proclaims in a ballad style that we can all be assholes but that's okay. He likes to be that way!

What the hell? Not heard that theme before (!)

The final track Beautiful once again turns to the girl topic and almost seems like stalking and desperation to me. All of this is wrapped up in a 'happy' pop-punk sound, though the line about being a 'fucking zombie and buying a beer' did make me chuckle a little (in the same way BrokenCYDE's 'Sex Toyz' did in that "oh my god why" way).

To be fair these are demos and the album probably shows improvement. Based on these songs alone though I don't see much difference between Hoodless and most other American punk/pop bands.

If you like pop-punk then yeah give Hoodless a try. Me personally I think I'll give it a miss.
