Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] There is a certain presence around Engineers that carries them over into one of the most unique artists releasing music at this moment in time. They manage to create this warm textured layer of sound that is simply beautiful. This alongside a haunting, yet uplifting vocal contribution makes Engineers a pioneer in adventurous dream pop music. Four years ago Engineers produced an outstanding debut album that took them well into the open arms of shoegaze lovers. The album was a solid piece of "Engineering" that had no floors, or cracks. Tracks like "Home", "Forgiveness" and "Come Out Of The Rain" showcased their weird and wonderful music. Now luckily for the world they have come back with yet another brilliant album. By saving the same sound and using that as grounds to build more progressive tracks on this thirteen track musical wonderment, Engineers never fail to impress. Their laid back approach to rhythms and walls of sound blow your mind. How do they actually do it? 'Three Fact Fader' has an extra supplement to that of the previous self-titled piece. Maybe due to producer Ken Thomas dipping his landscape influences in (Thomas having worked with Sigur Ros and M83). At some points it feels as though listening to 'Three Fact Fader' would be that much better with a little drug influence, as it oozes a stoner vibe. A few different noises and samples have built this album to a more '09 feel, especially with opener "Clean Coloured Wire". The lack of energy seems to draw you in every time and the abundance of different layers just sounds epic. This electronic side shows best on the closing piece "What Pushed Us Together", where you hear what can only be described as some sort of space synth playing in the background. "Crawl From The Wreckage" builds up into a more Mogwai experimental style. Using slow chords and dizzy drum beats Engineers ease their way through to their best material to date. I highly recommend 'Three Fact Fader' to the world! |
Re: Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] Really enjoyed their first album - I had 'a moment' to one of their tunes once. Glad they are back. |
Re: Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] Do we want to know what that 'moment' was? |

Re: Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] The whole first album just takes you away and my main hope with any kind of music is that it effects you - up, down, whatever. The 'moment' wasn't sexual or anything. It sounds a bit hippy and shit but I was driving on my own down to Cornwall and sunset was approaching just as I hit that hilly stretch of the 303 that goes past Stonehenge. I had this album on, no one else on the road - the sun hit the stones just right and it was like - fuck yeah man, that one was all for me. Like I say, just a moment. |
Re: Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] I understand what you mean Burt. If anyone doesn't then they should probably read Smash Hits instead of this site. |
Re: Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] exactly, i can't really compare Engineers to any other band, just that atmosphere their music makes is unreal |
Re: Engineers - Three Fact Fader [Album] I just decided to head over to their Myspace, upon your recommendations and other glowing reviews. They are just one of those bands I have somehow avoided. These guys are really good aren't they? 'Sometimes I Realise' is fantastic. |
