Naive
When The Jesus Lizard announced they were reforming earlier this year, it was largely seen as one of the more exciting of the many comebacks the music world has thrown up over the last few years. According to a recent interview, one group of people who were particularly excited were Antwerp rockers, The Hickey Underworld. Not that their love for Chicago’s finest is particularly evident on “Mystery Bruise”, rather their closest contemporaries here would be fellow Belgians Millionaire and Soulwax.
Nothing wrong with that then, especially when you throw in a Dinosaur Jr guitar riff and Refused drums; it all makes for a rather welcome concoction. And, although these ingredients perhaps elevate this particular song a little beyond its own worth, they do hint at more exciting things to come from The Hickey Underworld.
If nothing else it will make a welcome a change for music fans to get excited about a new band in the alt rock scene as opposed to all the reformations we have seen over the past couple of years.
