The Lonely Forest - We Sing The Body Electric [Album]

Burning Buildings Recordings

July 11, 2009, 11:49 AM

The Lonely Forest - We Sing The Body Electric [Album]
Music has been filled with bands that take qualities and influence from a number of styles and genres, and The Lonely Forest seem to be no exception. The four piece from Long Island, New York bring with them a unique musical cocktail of Ska, Jazz, Alternative and even garage to name but a few. The result of which is a brilliant album that is bound to make any fan of bands such as REM very happy.

In their musical arsenal The Lonely Forest come armed with a back history of playing in bands from all sides of the musical spectrum. With past experience of playing in Ska and Emo bands then it’s no surprise that this is a brilliant and interesting result.

‘We Sing The Body Electric’ is packed with clean, jazzy guitars and the occasional keyboard melody, giving an over all chilled out feel [for the most part]. However, this isn’t a slow paced CD by a long shot, tracks like ‘Their On To Something’ packs a kick, as well as ‘We Sing In Time’ which is more of an anthem and could easily be a radio classic in no time; providing us with ‘Pop-punk’ sounding guitars and a chorus that nests in your head for hours. The track ‘Tomato Soup’ is a piano centric masterpiece (featuring vocals from Brianna Hobbs and Lance Umble) and containing a soft tone and mood, blanketed with layers of brilliant vocals, the result of which of which is simply musical beauty.

The description above is just scraping the surface, and although I may have painted a picture of a soft and slow tempo album here, don’t be mistaken to think that this is going to be a boring or dull listen.

Over all, ‘We Sing The Body Electric’ does have a mellow and relaxing sound to it, the music isn’t very likely to appeal to you if you’re into screaming vocals and metal solos, but I would personally still check it out regardless [especially if you have wide and eclectic tastes].

The Lonely Forest will bring a fresh sound to your musical playlist. Worth a listen by any music lover.
