The Wow Signal was a ‘sound’ detected in the deepest regions of space towards the end of the 20th century and was suspected of being an alien communication by top scientists. The man who recorded this sound was so impressed that he wrote the word ‘Wow’ in the print out log.
Now with a story like that behind it, its no great shock that any band that would take on the name of something so huge and legendary would have to be out of this world as well.
London’s latest and personal Wow Signal comes in the form of a rock quartet.
The Wow Signal seem to take the indie styling of The Arctic Monkeys or Oasis and shape it in their very own unique and individual image bringing forward an alternative sound that is sure to impress and inspire. The brit-style vocals, coupled together with the blissful guitars, driving bass lines and propelling rhythms work amazingly. This is definitely British rock as it should be.
The Wow Signal have given us an album with so much to offer. The gritty over driven sounds of tracks such as ‘Lovers Scam’ are a must for any rock fan. However, the slightly down tempo tracks such as ‘Still Hunting’ are equally as impressive and are just as powerful a factor on 'Infinity’s Lobby'. It seems this The Wow Signal have created a musical monster that I’m sure is only the beginning.
I personally would be stunned and extremely disappointed if we don’t hear a lot more from these guys in the near future, but if this CD is anything to go by, that seems like a great impossibility.
