Takoma Star - Stockholm [Single]

Takoma Star - Stockholm [Single]

Dinosaur Records

Danny B and Little Dave are not the kind of names that people would normally associate with a rock band. Danny B and Little Dave however, do sound like the names of two very bad, extremely ridiculous, white rappers, who make Vanilla Ice look talented.

Thankfully this is not the case. Instead they are the two individuals responsible for Takoma Star, a band that reside in Essex in the UK and a band that although being relatively unknown, have already released a debut EP titled “To This Day” and have opened up for seventies punk rockers, The Stranglers. They were voted unsigned band of the week on XFM in 2008 and now in 2009 they are set to release their new album “Till The Fall” on July 27th.

“Stockholm” is the first single to be released from “Till The Fall” and is a track that has elements of classic rock, pop-punk and alternative with a touch of screamo peaking through the surface. When put like that, “Stockholm” sounds impressive and the sheer volume of the song is huge considering that they are indeed a two man band, but there is defiantly something missing. The instrumentals on the track are good and Danny B’s vocals are pleasant enough to the ear, but none of it is mesmerising and since these boys aren’t arranging flowers, pleasant is not a description that surely, they will be aiming for.

Influences such as Jimmy Eat World and Led Zeppelin are visible in the track and the desire to make “Stockholm” a stadium hit is apparent but the likelihood of this ever actually happening doesn’t look that great. This isn’t to say that Takoma Star do not deserve some credit for being somewhat creative with their fusion of styles, but selling out stadium’s, like their idols, does not look like a prospect they will be facing in the near future. Takoma Star do have some potential, but with “Stockholm” you get they feeling that they are just not fulfilling it.

Hopefully “Till The Fall” will be a little more daring and energetic than this track. “Stockholm” certainly doesn’t look to be the song that will catapult Little Dave and Danny B, to the mainstream or even above the unknown surface.

Not an essential buy by any means.
