Spiderman, Spiderman, Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size, Catches thieves just like flies.
Look Out! Here comes the Spiderman.
Is he strong? Listen bud, He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread? Take a look overhead.
Hey, there. There goes the Spiderman.
In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime
like a streak of light, he arrives just in time.
Spiderman, Spiderman, friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame, He's ignored, Action is his reward.
To him, life is a great big bang up, Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.
Yes hardly original I know, but then neither are Peter Parker in any way shape or form, and originality is overrated anyway. Besides, if you are gonna call yourself Peter Parker, you sure as hell better like Spiderman, or at least be prepared for the childish humour of others that do.
Over the course of both the A-side “Swallow the Rockets” and B-side “Temper Temper”, singer Roz Davis‘ voice shifts from Tammy Ealom of Dressy Bessy, through to fellow Glaswegian Claire Grogan of Altered Images, mixed with a dash of Louise Wener of Sleeper. Musically the band are suffering cheap comparisons with Elastica, that in truth, they are not worthy of. Elastica’s debut album ranks as one of the finest of the 90’s, so Peter Parker will have to do much better than “Swallow the Rockets” or “Temper Temper” if they are to write a song that ranks alongside ‘Connection’, ‘Line-Up’ or ‘Stutter’.
But first they’ve got to better the Spiderman theme tune.
