Acid Jazz
If Heaven has a discothèque, they're bumping Twisted Tongue up there!
Soulful and as funky as ten George Clinton's, the debut album from Twisted Tongue rocked my booty till it couldn't rock no more. Mark Dalton and Dave Jay fling funk styling's all over your walls right from the first track to the last.
A non-traditionalist approach is taken for Twisted Tongue's debut release. Classic funk and soul are blended with electro dance rhythms, as evidenced from the album's first single, "Got a Really Good Thing". An almost gospel-funk song gives way to electro bridges and vocal distortion effects. The soul saxophone of "Mindbeam (Parts 1 & 2)" plays over breaks and house beats. "Feelin' Junie Medley" gives a deeper groove with acid-house vocal harmonies. About three and a half minutes in, the song's driving beat gives way to a swaying feel with outstanding psychedelic lead guitars.
I want a baby blue Cadillac. Big white wall tires and chrome everything. I'd put "Niagra Song" on, and like clockwork, everyone would get naked and there would be a mass orgy in the streets. Love vibrations sending a signal up to the mothership, telling it to land. We are ready. We are waiting.
Would I throw Twisted tongue on at a party? I'd throw Twisted Tongue on at a funeral! Tears turn to laughter as sorrow is forgotten and a celebration of life begins. Twisted tongues got me by the brain stem, and I think I like it!
