The accompanying video clip more or less suggests that "Buy My Record" is about the typical run-of-the-mill loser who tries to upgrade the quality of his empty life by playing loud music in an expensive car, but the line 'buy my record from the record store and play it over town' makes you think David Saw's 'Buy My Record' is going to be the biggest hit with record owners.
This up-tempo acoustic sees Saw (haha) going a little crazy again, which could well be a good sign. Though his album 'Broken Down Figure' is mainly a case of a typical singer / songwriter with the usual problems of life, Saw tries his hands at every genre, from hard rock to soul, before he finds himself going laid back in his thirties. He hasn't forgotten how to play a guitar and his voice is still present, but the rock 'n roll spirit seems to be a bit absent on his new album, so the presence of 'Buy my Record' is definitely good news.
'Buy My Record' is, of all of the songs from 'Broken Down Figure', without a doubt the most catchy one and therefore a natural choice as the first single. The tongue-in-cheek song, with its smooth melody, 'high keys only' piano and typical pop background choirs, "Buy My Record" makes you believe you're not the only one who knows a lot of people surrounding you are morons.
It is, however, also the only up-tempo and humorous song on his album and therefore a bit misleading for album buyers. Those who like laid back singer / songwriters might want to give the album a try, but for the mock-the-morons lovers among us, you'd better stick with the single.
