Jamie Hartman aka Ben's Brother is the proud owner of an Ivor Novello award thus laying claim the title of "successful songwriter". But do we really care about things like that if the songs themeselves sound like utter monkey-shit? Do we?
Well luckily for Ben's Brother there is a certain kind of charm about "Questions & Answers" musically that really makes me drift away and pay little attention to the actual song-writing that is involved. Maybe Jamie should use that award he has as a toilet un-blocker because I totally glossed over the actual song-writing whilst listening to 'Questions & Answers'.
Building with an almost reggae-like strum that disappears almost as quickly as it appears (oddly enough around about the time the vocals arrive and the thrown together bass-line). The chorus is particularly uninspiring for my liking. It is generic and fowl smelling which is a let down, but some nice little Rhodes-esque piano drifts me back off again into a nice lull of contentment.
I want to like "Questions & Answers" but it reminds me far too much of one of those smooth, annoying, middle of the road tracks that the bloke who sang that irritating track with Santana might regurgitate.
Disappointing. Bens Brother on MySpace Music Taken from the album 'Battling Giants'
